What else can you do when you visit Chichen Itza ?
The area is a very delightful place to visit as much for its ancient symbols as for its exotic surroundings.
You can also practice birdwatching in the Chichen Itza surroundings as there is a bird refuge around.
A variety of tropical and exotic birds, such as balckbirds or flycatchers, can be seen all year round, even from hotels or bungalows.
Visit Balankanche Caves
When visiting Chichen-Itza, don’t forget to see the Balancanche Caves, a Mayan ceremonial shrine.
Here, you can take a comfortable underground walk in a cavern of stalactites and stalagmites.
The caves are located around 6 km away from Chichen Itza.
Tulum is another popular tourist destination.
Though not as imposing as Chichen Itza, Tulum is set in a spectacular location, near the beach and it is well worth visiting too.
Coba, another Mayan ruined city is found just 115 km away from Chichen Itza.
